Biography

Born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Kalam studied aeronautical engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology. He worked at DRDO and ISRO, and was project director of SLV-III, India's first indigenous satellite launch vehicle. He was elected President of India in 2002.
